I attended Pratt Institute in New York City for two years, where I studied illustration and textile design. In Oregon, I studied design, drawing and etching for one year with Martha Pfanschmidt, watercolor and mulimedia techniques for two years with Karen Drake, and sculpture for one year with Elizabeth Stanek, all at Marylhurst University; I also studied oil painting for one year with Joe Biehl at Portland State University.

I work in both realistic and abstract styles, but find the most freedom of expression in abstract works, where I can give free rein to my sense of color and design (which I feel are my two strongest areas). My favorite method of working is to use multimedia techniques, combining watercolor with acrylic, pastels, pencils, and pretty much anything that is availaible, including gold foil or gold leaf, salt, mylar, or plastic wrap. For sculpture I prefer clay, but have also worked with metal on a small scale.

I feel that my art is similar to my music; I compose musical pieces that are free in tonality and rhythm, and my artwork is also free in in its use of color (tonality) and design (rhythm). I see both art and music as an expression of creative forces that solidify into material form, in a unique expression of something that will hopefully create a unique response in anyone who sees or hears it.
